Table not visible except in print preview

Hello,
If I paste a table from another document, it does not show up. If I position my cursor in what I think is a cell, I can copy and paste the contents to anywhere outside the table and it shows up.If I create a new table, it does not show up. Grey bars flash briefly then disappear. I can position the cursor in what I think is a cell and type, but nothing shows up. Again, I can see it all in print preview. And I can export the document to a PDF and all the information is there.
Please help.
I didn't find the right solution from the Internet.
